Company to streamline operations by consolidating manufacturing plants

CAMP HILL, Pa., Nov. 14 /PRNewswire/ — Excel Homes, one of the nation’s top modular home manufacturers, announced plans today for continued growth and aggressive expansion.

The company stated that it will shutter manufacturing operations at its Ghent, WV, facility, but increase service resources at the plant and double the Southeast regional sales force. Manufacturing operations will be consolidated at the company’s facilities in Liverpool, PA, and Avis, PA, home of its AvisAmerica division.

According to Steve Scharnhorst, president & CEO of Excel Homes, “This decision in no way reflects the pride we hold in the homes that have been built at Ghent. Consolidating our manufacturing facilities will allow for continued growth and expansion even during the current market conditions our industry is facing.”

While home manufacturing will discontinue in Ghent, Excel remains committed to the region and has identified the Southeast as an opportunity for increased market share. Excel will continue its tradition of service to current and new customers in the region.

Founded in 1984, the Camp Hill, Pa.-based Excel Homes has long been recognized as a leader in the modular home building industry. In 2007, Excel appointed a new executive team to continue that leadership and invest in future growth. Under Scharnhorst’s direction, the team implemented a five-year strategic plan designed to identify and optimize growth opportunities in the modular and overall home building industries during the current market downturn.

According to
Jay Kedia, Excel Homes’ vice president of business development, “We find ourselves in a unique position of financial strength during this down market. We plan on taking full advantage of this opportunity to expand our footprint and market share through acquisition opportunities, streamlining manufacturing operations, and growing our sales force and customer base.”

The company’s current footprint spans from Maine to Georgia and as far west as Michigan. Specific goals for the next five years include an increased presence in the Southeast, growing market share in the Northeast, and acquisition opportunities for additional expansion in and beyond the current footprint. Measures are also in place for greater participation in
multi-family and institutional housing development.

Since 1984, Excel Homes has constructed more than 20,000 homes of the highest quality using detailed procedures, expert craftsmen and the benefits of innovative technologies. For more information about Excel Homes, visit http://www.excelhomes.com.
