To inspect, evaluate and prioritize repairs to the wastewater system

WASHINGTON, D.C. – September 21, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Representative Evan Jenkins (R-W.Va.) helped secure a $386,400 grant for the city of Gary in McDowell County from the Appalachian Regional Commission for the Gary Wastewater System Inspection and Evaluation project. Rep. Jenkins wrote a letter of support to the ARC for the city’s grant request.

This grant will help the city conduct a study of its wastewater system and treatment plant to prioritize needed repairs, improve service for its customers, and plan for expanding services.

“Investment in water infrastructure is crucial for West Virginia’s rural communities. This project will allow Gary to prioritize its resources to improve its wastewater system, repair issues promptly, and prepare to expand service in the future. This project is an important step to providing better service for the people of Gary and surrounding communities, and I will continue to support funding that invests in rural West Virginia and improves the quality of life for all residents,” Rep. Jenkins said.

The congressman’s letter of support is below.

July 7, 2015

Mr. James Bush
ARC Program Manager
West Virginia Development Office
Capitol Complex
Building 6, Room 553
Charleston, WV 25305

Dear Mr. Bush:

Please accept this letter in support of the town of Gary’s application for funding through the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC). It is my understanding that ARC funding would be used to contract a sanitary sewer evaluation study specialist to compile information regarding deficiencies with the town’s existing sanitary infrastructure.

The funded evaluation would also allow the town to prioritize the repairs needed to its sewer system so that town officials can better comply with West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection regulations and more easily identify and prioritize areas that are in need of repair.

It is my hope that you will give the town of Gary’s application full consideration for funding. Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Evan H. Jenkins
Member of Congress
